Help Wanted  . Chrysler Avenger 1979 1.6 GLS  . Both the rev counter and speedometer have stopped working . Other gauges work Ok and Trip meter working. Are both of  these fed of the same source of the Electronic Ignition ? . Car runs but has a slight miss but this could be coincidence as car has been stored for some time and no checks eg spark plugs have been done yet.

pull the dash check its plugged in the back like 6 screws to find, take it easy some of the solder may be dry / cracked on the board

Possibly loose needles on the guages? For the tripmeter to be working the cable must still be ok, so possibly gone brittle with age and come loose. Just a guess though

The needles warp and bend upwards sticking to the glass, happened to mine more than once lol

oldschool

Happened to me too. The needles are plastic. No need to remove them, just heat up a knife with a lighter and gently place under the bent part of the needle and push the needle down straight again.

To those that diagnosed bent needles you were spot on.Many thanks it would not have been my first place to look if it weren't for you . I just removed the needles and gave them a bath in boiling water .In the mean time I had a look at the electronic ignition module. The resin has all oozed out . Is this just for protection of the circuits and can I apply more molding resin or silicon ?
