Alternative shock absorber options?

Hi, blown another front shockie, was a N.O.S chucked in about a year or so old. Rather than just put the same in, what other options are there. Not looking to lower it much if at all as that presents ground clearance issues & the closest motorway is 2 1/2hrs away @ Dunedin

Looking at better inserts- bilstiens, kyb or anything else that might fit, or should i go with coil overs.

Hopefully i can get a strut gutted in time to catch a ride to Dunedin to get measured for a bilstein on monday

Any suggestions?

Bilsteins are good, I'm running bilsteins with progressive valving in them, Chris Alexander at suspension tech did them for me, just running inserts in the front and new shocks in the rear.

Dropped him a line in a trademe auction, said he'd done an avenger recently, will have to take the struts out of the car & send them up as they're the best/tidyest pair i've got. While i'm at it i'll change the crossmember & sort the steering rack.

Get a bush kit for the back & we're sorted.

Shame to put all these good bits in such a shitty looking hack but cant start the rebuild til another job gets done 1st

He's really good to deal with, I took my car to him and he did my whole setup, new shocks and urethane bushes all around.i also saw he setup Graeme Bjerrings v8 avenger

can you remember what a set of bilstien inserts cost you? and did he tell you what damping rate they were.

Can't remember any of that sorry, was 4 years ago. All I remember is it was setup for a Targa car I'm running 205/60/13 all round and it handles amazing and sticks to the road  like glue.

Struts are out, wrapped & ready to ship,  will come back revalved to suit & a pair of rear shocks as well.
While in bits, new tie rod end, brake pads, (w.o.f man missed them) fix rack & an engine mount.

So...... anyone know the best place to get a bush kit for the back end? No point doing 1/2 a job, should make a huge difference next time at teretonga

If you're going urethane bushings I think I got mine from Aussie which was the cheapest around $300 I think?

For those who want to know, got a txt from Chris saying the 4 shocks are done & the bill is $1786.00, gst & freight included.
I asked for a setup suitable for hillclimb/sprints/fast road work, Chris reckoned judging by the witness marks from the front coils binding maybe rally spec would be better. When i get them in i'll run it down a couple of favourite backroads - should be fun

litteraly just been told my rear shocks are too long (bad things might happen)

plan a is try the shocks that matched the dif (recent swap) or follow this order wit hone of my own (who needs a root canal anyway)

Verdicts in, been driving round town & did an oldschool run to ranfurly as well. Round town its abit too firm for the goat tracks that pass for streets...... on open road in the twisty stuff its great! Works way better in gravel too.

Front springs are probably abit on the soft side for the shocks, will look at changing them sometime.
