Happy 40th

seeking a "TC Edge for the boot, only thing that's missing now similar to the "GL" on this image (colour may vary)

JoKer

I am told the TC badge I'm thinking of might be a Triumph thing & an old owner may have got badge happy

anyway this is the first time the world has seen the below image

waiting VERY patiently for the WOF man to open up to get the car Legal & Paint to harden off/settle before venturing outdoors

I am also recommended to try some 2-stroke oil in the fuel to try & free up the suspected sticky Valve (makes a cute whistling sound)

Scarlet

I had a TC once, the set up looked like as seen in this photo, it was black in colour

JoKer

yea I thinking that the TC badge I seen on one once wasnt factory / OEM

its also missing the Blue Hillman bit & worrying that it will be 'over badged' or on other hand might balance to boot out nicely left/right with 'flair' lol

making bookings now for Leadfoot, going to try & get in with the rest of Oldschool.co.nz for a sweet display / reveal

The Hillman bit was also black at least it was on my car, but articles also say the interior on the TC models only came in black, mine was tan/white with brown carpets, if you really want a blue Hillman bit I have seen them on eBay from time to time. It is not clear in the photo but the TC bit was a separate badge.

So short story : Test driving after fresh wof Week before Leadfoot CHOICE

Drove Palmy Tues night fine....

Back to Dvk she lets go all water via split in the Radiator I had been monitoring (below temp sensor so I assume nothing to measure = very little warning) STINK

Take the Day off work Wednesday head over to see Graham Ekins (Avenger/Humber club spares Guru

$25 for new Head & Intake/Exhaust Gaskets

Drop Rad off at A & D Radiators on Cook Street as per recommendations quote for $300

Head off Wed Night

Head back on Thurs night / new oil filter

Radiator ready Fri morning Install 11am

Leave for Leadfoot 1pm DVK via Vinegar Hill (not testing fresh setup over Napier : Taupo's its 3hrs to Taupo either way we go from here)

808 miles @ 3500 rpms / 1300km Back to Dvk 10pm Monday Night mostly trouble free motoring

SO STOKED

yep thats her good side (have had offer for L-rear trim that should match thanks to forum member NZTiger )

car literally turns heads, and gets comments wherever we stop

they are like Belly Buttons, everyone has had one or knows someone with one!

only issue was a sticking caliper, was grinding metal / changed pads in the carpark at Leadfoot, made the last half hour into Whitianga interesting Fri Night

Head-gasket gone again

what happened?

Points burnt out so I filed them & tried to reset gap on the fly, started burning out again (tryin to drive 50km out of town / shops shut no new points available)

guess it got hot / running bad

(temp gauge on the blitz : error 404)

either that OR that's my punishment for not re-torquing head as recommended...

left a message with Graham / avenger parts in PN, car hm & I'm moping, might take time to check head proper, looked kinda like the heater hose has got hot on head & split :(

discuss in the link @ top of page pls

yep had an inkling split heater hose above the affected cylinders

Cause or victim? May never know...

are these hard to come buy too or should I bug Graham again?

Edit : its the lower long one that feeds off the thermostat housing

Nick says I need a new / replacement head & Valves due to cracks & stuff

sooo what's my best option?

I do have the Blue one (on the back or the tow truck scroll up) thats also a 76 Alpine TC (only difference is manual)

a 72 1500 (brown one in pic) which i drove to where it is now (nothing in the one to the left of it)

with the thought that a 1500 head on a 1600 block ups compression / power? but is that what I want / need with an automatic car?

then there's the Chrysler Wagon newest & possibly the best bet in my mind?

https://www.instagram.com/p/BBMOupNSox4/?taken-by=akiwijoker

was also a runner till parked up on pete's farm & the springs raided for the Rally car / not entirely sure if its a 1600 (no reason to think otherwise) has LPG / CNG fitted, will this have affected it in any way?

gave Kiera my original 1600 head off this car Project thread here : http://www.avenger.co.nz/forum/index.php?topic=40.0

in return I have her 1300 head (or is her's 1600? cant recall) with a burnt out exhaust valve

edit carjam says its CC rating = 1,600cc (still a 1975 / 41 year old head)

that's the immediate simplest option with a new set of valves etc

aware ideally I would like to find a "S" stamped big valve head but happy to use what I have for now without spending squillions

thoughts & input please into the discussion thread : here http://www.avenger.co.nz/forum/index.php?topic=426.75
