pics/ideas suggestions?

is it really required?

I'm talking baffles here btw too

avenga

I never bothered with baffles etc in my race car and I raced that for years without any problems. Although I wasn't the fastest racer out there. It would be interesting to know if the Targa Avengers run baffles in theirs.

rang Trev (last owner)

reckons has one with a wingage gate in it and a smale gate to avoid slosh

and cheers thats the feedback I wanted - your running slicks aye?

avenga

Nah I didn't run slicks because most the stuff I did was just clubsport type stuff and mostly tarmac hillclimbs on coromandel back roads so I just used a semi-race performance tyres. I forget what they are but they are like half slick half tread. I could never afford proper race slicks back in the day.

I lent my Avenger to a mate to do some gravel stuff so I don't actually know what is on it now. I should check.

I will have slicks :P

avenga

Slicks by choice or slicks because they are soo old they have no tread left on them? :P

real slicks :P

aiming for at least some wall additions to stop oil climbing out on excessive G forces

LMAO yea i just said that and even i am laughing a little hehe

avenga

haha excessive G forces in an Avenger  ;D

but all joking aside I used to pull pretty "excessive G forces" in my Avenger, enough to rip the rear chassis rail in half after in swapped out to the estate diff with panhard rod. and the front is so twisted from cornering that I couldn't get the strut brace back on after I took it off.

I had more of a problem with the body not handling the cornering rather than the engine. Avengers are pretty weak but at least the cage makes it a lot stiffer. If I was to build a new race car I would bring the cage right through to the shock towers and seam weld the crap out of it. I would also put gussets in most the joins.

When I was planning the build for my 3S-GE powered Avenger race car I did some thinking about how I would strengthen the body. The body on my '80 is pretty buggered from racing, everything is slightly bent so next one I build would be mega strong.

yea sump is well down on the prep list as ya already said not too much of an issue

just making opportunity to give it a tickle/upgrade while its off

avenga

Yeah you may as well while you have it off. If this motor is going to be as serious as it sounds then you should do everything you can to protect it.

Will you have the new motor in by oldschool nats?
