A competition one is just painted to prevent rusting while on the shelf, as the appearance doesn't matter for racing use.
Show car ones are treated with a High Performance Coating (HPC) like Richard's 1975 Avenger has.
There's no paint that will withstand exhaust manifold temperatures as they can get red hot!
Even chrome plating can't handle it, which is why motorbike exhaust pipes are double walled.
The inner wall takes most of the heat with the chrome plated outer wall running much cooler.
You can always tell cheapy single wall replacement pipes because the chrome goes blue from the heat.

Here is the 2.5 Avenger Quick Rack complete with shiny NOS track control arms, ready to go back onto car. I was going to paint it in satin black but it came up so well after I went over it with a wire brush that I decided to keep it raw.

I also invested in one of the alloy competition mounting brackets like the one Steve fitted to his car.

If anyone is interested in the Quick Rack conversions then I can supply the contact details of the guy who does them. He also does them in kit form so shipping to NZ may not be too expensive?

Its a heavy duty competition bracket for the steering rack. It just beef up the strength of the fixing of the s/rack to the cross member.

Manifold is back on the car and she is now off to Yorkshire for Bike Carb conversion. There is too much salt on the roads here right now so she going up on a trailer. Hope to have car back after the works done in about 3-weeks. Looking forward to seeing how she performs after the conversion?

I finally have the car back from the shop with the bike carb conversion fitted. I am really pleased with it and how it performs. Its a lot quicker and a lot more responsive on the throttle, but still very driveable. The conversion was carried out by Bogg Brothers who pioneered and specialise in these conversions. They told me it was the first Avenger they have ever done and also said it was one of the most straightforward they had carried out. The throttle and choke cables matched straight up so was able to leave those in situ without having to change them.

Here is a few pics of the set-up.
