Starting issues

Nothing major I think, but a bit skint at the moment so wanted to get a second opinion before I go out and spend any money.

The starter is turning nicely, I'm getting fuel to the carbs and sparks to the cylinders but I'm not getting any love. I originally thought I had probably flooded the engine, because I likely did (not used to shiny overhauled carbs), but half an hour later and the next day the same thing. Got a slight cough once or twice but would have missed them if I hadn't been paying attention.

What I think has happened is that the circuit in the distributor that increases the juice to the plugs has putted out. Does this seem right? I seem to recall something like this happening before and all it needed was a $5 capacitor replaced and I was fine again. This was 5 or 6 years ago though so I've forgotten the details. If so then how do I test this barring just chucking a new one in and hoping? Electronics aren't my strongest suit: that's why I brought a car with as little as possible in the way of circuits in the first place. (I can almost follow an Avenger wiring diagram!)

I had this happen to me about a month ago, all i did was change the points and condenser which seemed to solve the problem.

My mechanic ended up setting the points and giving it a bit of a basic tune when he was putting it bak together, so I doubt that is it. I guess I just bite the bullet and chuck a new condenser into it.

Hi
I have the same thing happen but when in driving will stop and won't start again I pop the dizy cap a move the contacts then it starts. You could try getting some sand paper and rubbing between the contacts also rubbing all the other contacts in the dizy. I'm changing mine to an electronic one which ones set up never needs resetting and can save Fule.
