Just that Valiant ones are twice the price...lol
Smash Palace is probably your best bet or Nikolai may still have his old ones from when he upgraded to semi-sealed lights?

I will have a look in the shed tomorrow, or on the weekend and let you know. I'm pretty sure that I have at least two, probably 4 which should be in working order.

Where are you located?

Yes. They all use the same headlights, I have swapped headlights between my Hillman and Valiant, and I also gave one of the forum members my old Valiant lights to use in his Hillman.

It came from laws in the states, up until 1957, all cars had to have the same two 7 inch round headlights (Like the VJ Valiants use), then in 1957 they allowed the use of four 5 3/4 inch headlights like the Avenger Alpine and GLS had. And they in the 70's they added in the 7" x 5" lights that we see on the VH Valiant's and the Avenger's. It wasn't until 1984 that the US allowed other types of lights like the aero lights you see on modern Japanese cars.

Because Hillman planned to sell the Avenger as the Plymouth Cricket in the USA, they needed to use the four 5 3/4 inch or two 7" x 5" lights to comply with USA laws, which is also the same reason Valiant's do, because they were derived from the USA Dodge Darts etc (After VH valiant diverged from USA based cars but they still kept the USA standardised lights) When the Avenger was facelifted to the Chrysler Avenger, Rootes knew that they weren't going to try selling it in the states again so they decided to use lights unique to the Avenger to match the grille.

Some Japanese cars of the era would use different lights in Japan, but then they would be forced to use the USA standardised lights if they sold them in the US. Euro cars were the same.

Interestingly, that is why the Plymouth Cricket has side indicators and the early Hillman's don't. At the time, all cars in the USA needed side indicators, but in the rest of the world you didn't yet... which is also one of the reasons for the Chrysler Avenger face lift. By the time they did the face lift, other countries were bringing in rules saying that your indicators need to be visable from the side. On the Hillman the indicators are under the bumper on the front, and on the back hockey shaped headlights so you can't see either from the side. On the Chrysler Avenger they make the indicators on both the front and back wrap around to the side so you can see them from the side. Later on it would be mandatory to have actual side indicators like the Plymouth Cricket, but by then the Avenger was no longer being sold in most countries.
