Ok so ive finally got money together for the car.
Where do I start, where do I spend??
Ideas?
Im thinking a 1uz conversion and panel and paint keeping it original looking etc

JoKer

2J maybe? Link + tune/turbo, driveline 6 speed altezza stuff

or nissan route

projectavenger

Long term goal (when I find more money) is power/weight ratio of 1:1 so not really interested in SR etc but 2J would be a step in the right direction. Would it fit?? Pretty long motor.

avenga

2J would be pretty tight, as you said it is a pretty long engine.

have you seen my 1UZ conversion I am doing?

Avengers are about 850KG stock, so you would need to go for something with a turbo to get that sort of power. I know my 1UZ setup won't be getting anywhere near that but I have seen turbo 1UZ's at over 1000HP.

Yea Im looking at going down the same sort of route as you.
Sadly when it comes to doing the work myself, my time and skill set is rather limited! Which is never guna help my budget

avenga

Yup, it is pretty expensive doing conversions. so far in parts along mine has cost over $10k

engine $2000
Brand new gearbox $3500
Bellhousing $800
Hilux LSD $800
8 throttle bodies $1600

Now im worried about my 30 stretching!

avenga

Put it this way, I have spent well over 30k on my '75

It all depends on your budget and how much of it you do yourself. For me I don't really do any of the work on mine, except the planning. All the labour and stuff is done at Bygones, so yes it does cost but the finished project is a million times better than I could do myself.

I also tend to splash out on expensive things when they aren't really needed. Like I brought a brand new R154 gearbox from Toyota, I probably would have saved over $2k if I brought a second hand W55 off trademe.

Nikolai

Are you planning on going in straight-lines, or around corners? :D

You'll definitely need a full-cage I'd think at that kind of power, and chassis reinforcements! I think you've had a few issues with chassis flex Richard?

avenga

Yes, even with my little 1500 I am getting bad chassis flex. So yeah you will have to cage and reinforce your Avenger if you plan having that much power.

My V8 Avenger will be fully caged and reinforced.

Unusual for a road going (non-racing) Avenger to crack around the A pillars like yours has done Richard. That's likely caused by the front springs being too hard, resulting in road shocks being transferred directly to the front body structure (forcing it to flex and crack) rather than being absorbed by the front suspension.

avenga

You have to have the hard springs though  ;) Why? Because racecar  8)

But seriously, Yes my suspension is a bit too hard, and yes I do push the little Avenger a bit hard in the windy stuff but my V8 will suffer much more abuse than my 1500.
