Also if anyone knows of a black interior for sale.
Thanks all  :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

All the Avenger engines just bolt in exactly the same so you can easily swap out the 1300 for the 1600.

Have a read of my build thread here http://www.avenger.co.nz/forum/index.php?topic=13.0

My Avenger was originally a 1300 but when I brought it, it had a 1500 in it. I then went out and built a new tiger+ spec 1500 for it then swapped them over.

If you mean swapping over to a modern engine then we have a heap of build threads ranging for 4 cylinder SR20's to V8 1UZ's

Black interiors are pretty hard to find, especially here in NZ, I have never seen one in person.

And its a shame the black interiors look lovely  I might just reupholster the cream ones  :)

I was thinking of doing reupholstered black interior on my '75 Avenger, But I have decided to concentrate on my V8 Avenger.

beat ya to it (kinda)

either way the hardest part about engine swaps is the 2 main bolts behind the rocker-covers closest to the firewall

a good 1500/1600 with twin anythings will still put a smile on ya dial, ranging from OEM SU's to Solex's and Dellorto's being the pinnacle of Oldschool cool/Bang for buck (I think)

dont see Webers mentioned much around these parts aye? I "think" the temp VS map Rich posted was with Webers vs Delloto's?

avenga

Yeah, I'm just joking around, a 1500/1600 with twins are heaps of fun, I love my '75 Avenger, it is really quick.

Webers don't work as well on the Avenger, it is down to fuel atomization size, the Dellorto's have smaller fuel droplets than the weber, which is what the Avengers like.

David Vizzard did heaps of testing on them back in the day, here is a link to a article about it. http://s1340.photobucket.com/user/Catsman1/media/MoreAvengerTuning1_zps286cdfb0.jpg.html?sort=4&o=26

zoom in and read the Avenger tuning articles, it goes in to great lengths about the weber vs dellortos, I posted some parts of that article somewhere before but I can't remember where.

Cool ive been offered a 1600 and twin carbs with the car for extra so I might just do that lol :)

avenga

I would get the 1600 with twin carbs. It will make it in to a totally different car, the 1300's are really under powered.

Hi Avengeruk I have a MK1 1300 and with a lot of futtering about with it as I tried to get the wee 1300 mill running as smooth as I could get it I noticed this:

Simplest way to get more kick out of a 1300, fit a SU HS4 (or6) or a HIF to it and turn up the mixture. If the Chrysler is cable throttled this is easy to do, if its an early MK2 with the rod link I can help you make a start. I have a spare lower bit for the HS4C the MK1 & 2 had for a few years.
If you can find the inlet manifold to suit the CD1.75'' carbie the single carb High Performance models had then just stick a HIF44 straight on to it.
If you go the SU HS4 route you just need to get the right-handed setup, start by looking for an Austin 1800 carburettor. Loads on ebay or your local scrapper.

Even in standard tune I've found the 1300 quick enough, N7YC (hotter) plugs seen to make them run nicer too.

But yeh drop a 1600 in there will do the trick. Later 1300 diff is at 3.89:1 (I think) that'll suit a 1600 bang on. 1300cc gets you the 1/2 price Tax, say nothing - LB means 'Light Bore'!
Change the 30 yr old diff oil BTW!

PS: Avengeruk you are about to get very opinionated and disdainfull of other British cars of the era! The Avenger was 'bout the only good one!

Apart from the usual 'is the engine gubbed' checks listen for the clocking sound a worn timing chain tensioner will cause. Don't listen to advice Ford nuts will give, they really don't know what they are talking about such as this gem as an example:

''..the crossflow engine was always better because the Hillman engine would jump a timing tooth..''

This is an Escort harrier confused as to why the camshaft is much higher on the Avenger engine and the dizzy shaft is not a foot long!
If an Escort sheep gives you gyp, get him to push the rear of your 'venger sideways, watch what happens, then ask him to stand by your exhaust pipe with the engine running, not the KO fumes often gotten from a crossflow as people feel obliged to fit a twin choke weber to them.

I like the old Fords, really! Just the way many owners go on about them...
