Looks like a great place to buy all those rare rally parts, If I was still racing I would be really keen on the fibreglass stuff for the Avenger, I would only imagine how light you could get an Avenger with all that fibreglass given the kerb weight is only around 850KG stock.

Actually looking at that site they have something that I have been looking for.

I wonder if it would be cheaper to get one made here Richard? I know the steel surgeon in Auckland can make custom bellhousings. Ive read a thread where a guy puts a 5speed seirra box (liek you are talking about) into an avenger, and he makes the bellhousing himself. so it think it is relatively straight foward (in the scheme of things). so I would consider talking to someone like the steel surgeon and see what sort of money it would cost. will try find that thread I am talking about

I know another member here is doing 5 speed conversion at the moment using Toyota T50 gearbox and a modified bellhousing.

I have been told it is easier to use an automatic bellhousing and modifying that, but auto Avengers are pretty hard to find now days.

The problem with getting one made it you usually have to do a lot of mucking around to get it to work, I was just wondering if it wouldn't be easier and cheaper in the long run to buy something you know will work.

fair enough. I cant find the thread I was tellign you about, will ahve another look tonight. it had measurements and just used the avenger bellhousing (cut off from the gbox) and then a plate welded to the other end with holes to suit the ford gearbox. the gear  shift mechanisim was shortened as well to fit in the factory hole (looked liek the most difficult part)

The automatic bellhousing just unbolts from the gearbox so I think that is why it would be easier. hopefully then you could just make an adapter plate to make it fit the new box.

I have been looking for an automatic bellhousing for a while but haven't seen one in years. I got excited the other day when I searched in trademe for "Hillman Avenger Automatic" and it came up with a BW35 but it had a Cortina bellhousing.

Was this the thread? here
