So, Nikolai and I attempted to remove his single stromgerg carburretor and replace with a set of twin strombergs over the weekend.

Nikolai purchased a carb kit and we attempted to replace as many gaskets and rings as we could but found it quite difficult.

We also went to pick-a-part and purchased a mint throttle cable from an 87' Telstar which moves freely and has a good amount of length, perfect for the Avenger! We also purchased an ideal bracket to mount to the firewall and hold the throttle cable in place, as well as some good sized piping and a T-Bar hose to connect and distribute the fuel between both carbs.

(Also, we found the top and bottom steering column covers in mint condition from the Avenger at the Mangere Pickapart!!! Score!)

HOWEVER, upon tring to install the twin carbs, we could not get the engine to ignite! We tried for a good hour to get the bastard to start, and even had the help of a kind neighbour across the road, but we couldnt seem to get her to go! We checked that both carbs were getting fuel and triple checked that all wires and hoses were connected properly etc..

Nikolai needed his car for work the next day, so we had to disassemble and reattach the single carb which surpirisingly took us no longer than 10 minutes!

Questions for the forum:
Does anyone have any idea of what could have been wrong with the carbs? What else could/should we have done or should try?
Also, can anybody point us in the right direction in terms of finding a carburrettor specialist, or someone that could install these for us?

Cheers guys!
Jimmy

Check the carb diaphragms...if they're split the carbies won't work.
A can of engine start is handy to start engines where the fuel system has been drained.

Have you got the dashpots in the right way around? I had the same non starting problem, then i realised the dashpots have two holes in the bottom of them. the holes should be closest to the engine block. mine were in backwards so the holes were closest to the air filter. p.s (the dashpots are the thing the diaphrams are attached to, underneath the vacuum chambers)
