Hello Chaps. So Ive fitted the 1600 with twin Stromberg cd150's. Timing is spot on, fuel is going through the carbs, good spark, tappets are set but it just wont go! It sounds like it wants to go, its spluttering but just wont jump into life. the motor hasnt been started on donkeys years but it seems to be in good cond, good compression etc. I was going to try tow starting it and see if it goes that way. Any ideas?

wee bit of oil in the bores? (remove spark plugs and squirt a teaspoon or two in)

cranked it over till the oil light goes out as well... um only ever done 2 motors and that's bout my limit of knowledge

dizzy aint 180* or something simple? firing order etc

I've done that more than once. Easy to do.
Chill Datto, bro!

yup even thou the drive is off centre its not hard to jam it in and try and make it go

Can be hard to start those twin carby engines when they've been sitting for a while - spray engine start directly into the carby's while someone else is operates the starter.
If it runs then stops, the carby's need cleaning.

Hey guys. I tried tow starting it today. It started....sort of. Ran on two cyls. Then I noticed a HUGE fuel leak from the rear carb. It seems to be coming out of a air breather that goes down  into the float chamber. no fuel was actually getting to the 3rd & 4th cyls. so i whipped the carb off and im going to pull it apart tomorrow to investigate. Also I'll order a CD150CD3 carb kit from Repco just encase. Then put it back together & she will be a runner again! all set for summer.

Hey, i've also had a shitload of trouble with those twin strombergs.

do you have an inline fuel filter? Kinda need em with the old avenger engines, mine had all sorts of shit running through it.
before i put the filter in the rear carb was pissing fuel out, due to a blockage inside near the needle.
I'm currently running a single strommy, was getting to the point where the twin set needed ajusting every second day!
Recon time i guess.

Goodluck, Tay.

Yep got a inline filter on there.  Personally I hate Zenith stromberg carbs, id much rather have some twin SU's on there. But I will persevere. Ahh the joys of 1970's British motoring.

taylor

Hahahaha yeah i'm much the same, the strombergs are just too... touchy!
Especially the twin sets! But sourcing SU's is alot harder than Stroms, no one wants strombergs haha.

hey sam, good to hear you are getting close.

Perhaps give it a go with the old carb of the 1300?

I was going to get it running on the single carb then stick the twins on once I knew it was a goer etc.

although might not be worth the hassle if its justa  case of a quick rebuild of that carb

good luck mate, glad you are still cracking away at her!

also, just dropped of some 15" steels to get widened for the triumph.....8s on the front and 8.5s on the back

I found a single large stromie to be almost as good as a twin set up, and a hell of a lot less maintenance. Professionally rebuilt over 4 years ago and still going strong.

Hey Andrew Yeah man Cant wait to get it back on the road! Looking forward to seeing those widened steelies on the Trumpy. Let me know how much they cost as im dead keen to get some made up. and blekkja I did think about putting a single stromberg on BUT I just like the lush-ness of having twin carbs. And they look cool  ;D

taylor

My twincarbs were so worn they sounded like i had a hard out hot cam in it hahaha.
Idled so hardout, still has a nice beat to the idle but less with the single

blekkja

I rely on a huge exhaust system to provide most my noise.

I do appreciate the look of twins: I've got SUs on the 4k. But I'm real lazy when it comes to maintenance, so single is best. All you guys are a bad example, though, so I'm going to have to get another set of dellortos eventually.

I just have pretty much no muffler system under mine, a single straight through muffler loud enough for ya?! :P
