This is my 1980 Chrysler Avenger Race Car.

Discuss here.

I brought it as my first car when I was in my teens back in the mid-90's. I brought it for $600 and I used to think it was a coolest car ever.

This is it when I brought it.

And then I put some fat hotwires and eagers on.

After learning to drive in it and a few years of getting up to no good in it I thought it was time to do a little upgrading so I looked in the T&E and someone was parting out there Avenger race car so I brought heaps of good bits for real cheap. He had split the block so he figured it was time to get out of racing it so he sold me all the race bits like the head, cam, carbs and extractors.

I took it down to my local mechanic. He builds engines for a few Targa car so I gave him a 1600 and all the race parts and said build me a race motor. being still young (in early 20's) I had no idea what an actual race motor was like. I tried to drive it as a road car but it was totally rubbish for that. The cam was just way to lumpy for the road so I decided to turn it in to a full race car.

Over the next year my mechanic friend built me a race car, He made me a roll cage and custom suspension and we went racing.

All my early and build photos are on film so I need to get them scanned but this is from one of my early races at Pukekohe.

I did hillclimb. sprints and track racing. Here are some shots from Hamilton Road, Golden Valley Hillclimb and Ruakaka Street Sprint.

A couple of years in to my racing I had a little off at the Waiti Road Hillclimb. As is always the case there was a guy with a camera standing right at the corner I crashed at. Here is the embarrassing video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO0mKJikcmQ

And here are the pictures of the damage. It wasn't that bad, I stuffed one strut and a guard other than that it is pretty good. I think the rollcage stopped most the damage.

After I fixed the damage I was back in to it. this is a shot of my all fixed up and back on the truck going off to another hillclimb

Here are some pictures of my suspension mods
