Left rear doesn't look too bad, and I don't know how you blow a diff on a 1300 auto.

1600 richard, makes all teh difference!

avenga

True true, I wish I had a 1600 in mine :P

its "drifting" damage apparently LOL

avenga

Again, how does someone "drift" a 1600 auto?

Looks like you've saved that Avenger from a fate worse than death Jarrod...remember to keep it away from your flatmate...it may not survive another 'drifter'...LOL

Scarlett for sale

Quote from: http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=490648938Hillman Avenger 1974

Meet Scarlett, a special Hillman Avenger 1600 Super that I?ve owned for five years. It?s time to move her on as I need to trim my car collection. She's been well maintained as I'm a mechanic. Parts are still easy to get and I?ve replaced the original clutch, water pump and radiator.
I?ve also fitted electronic ignition, halogen headlights, an electric radiator fan, electric demister and new carpets.

I think the kms are correct as she drives nice and tight.
You can see her body is pretty straight. After 38 years her paint is fading, but still looks okay. I've never seen another maroon Avenger as it's usually a Charger colour, see auction 486661022. Scarlett thinks she IS a Charger, as she's more powerful than your average Avenger!

I wondered why and checked the motor...saw it has double valve springs, so I thought a previous owner had fitted a high performance Alpine engine? On checking the engine number with the chassis plate I found the numbers match, so she had the Alpine motor fitted at the factory in 1974...how cool is that!
Just one Alpine carburettor fitted, as the Super was a single carb model. Twin carbs can be retro-fitted.

The Avenger was a well designed 1970?s car, lighter, faster and more economical than previous Hillman?s.
Back then the speed limit was only 80 km/h so they didn?t get a 5th gear. To increase the gearing for modern motorway driving, I?ve fitted wider Alpine wheels on the rear with taller 185/80 tyres.
She?s being sold as is where is, with a new WOF and 6 months rego...and is eligible for $111 classic rego on 1/1/14. Insurance is cheap, cost me just $82 full cover on $4000.

As a bonus for the new owner, I?ve just given her a full service, including changing the engine, gearbox and diff oil, along with the brake fluid and engine coolant...and will include a genuine handbook and her own Mini Me.

She?s a great car to own...fun to drive, gets heaps of smiles and these classic 1970?s cars are rising in value!

Will update the photos when the weather improves.
