ALSO, MAYBE A TWIN CAR MANIFOLD, OR SOMETHING TO MAKE IT GO BETTER? OR EVEN A BIGGER MOTOR THAT I CAN REBUILD, AND FIT. JUST WEIGHING UP OPTIONS AT THE MOMENT.
ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As for modifying Avengers there is plenty of scope for improving the power, from a simple twin strumberg upgrade all the way up to something like the engine in my '75 Avenger which is a 1500cc with dual Dellorto's and heaps of other work done. (see my build thread here http://www.avenger.co.nz/forum/index.php?topic=13.0

Read some of the other members "Members Gallery" threads to see what others are doing with their Avengers. We have a lot of members who are in the progress of modifying their Avengers so that will give you some ideas of what you can be done with Avengers.

What year is your Avenger? Is it a Hillman or a Chrysler?

There are quite often Avenger motors and carbs that come up for sale. A few of the members are currently repowering their Avengers with bigger motors and I did my 1500cc build last year. Also wanted adds on Trademe work quite well, that is how I found my 1500.

Also one other hint. Try not to use Caps Lock when posting. On forum Caps Lock is like shouting.

Cool, Thanks for your help. Mine is a 76 hillman avenger, calf s#$t brown in colour, and has one blue guard haha. I will keep an eye on trademe, and on this site, and see what i can find in the way of performance upgrades.

avenga

Cool, Are you planning to repaint it at some stage?

There was a twin strumberg manifolds and carbs on Trade Me a little while ago. It has been a bit quite over the last few weeks for Avenger performance parts but they pop up every now and then. I will keep an eye out and let you know if I see another. In the meantime feel free to make yourself at home on the forum and join in on any of the Avenger conversations.

What part of the country are you in?

Im from Tokoroa. I came accross this car for free, and just thought id see what we could do with it. Might keep it for a thrash around car, and see how it goes. Thanks for the welcoming to the site.

Just curious, what happened to the original gearbox and diff?
They're usually pretty resilient.

avenga

We have some other members who are from the Tokoroa area.

Avengers are good little cars and make sure you look after it and don't "thrash" it too much because there isn't many Avengers left and we need to save and preserve as many as we can that are still on the roads.

Did one skid, and blew the diff, and dropped the clutch in reverse, because the back brakes were seized on from sitting, and blew reverse. I would of thought it would be stronger too, but the diff and box in it arent that big by the look of them

avenga

Ouch! you must have been pretty damn rough on it.

I raced my '80 Avenger for 5 years without blowing a diff or blowing any gears and I used to give that thing death. and that is with my 1700cc+ dual Dellorto race motor which is putting out tons more power than your little 1300cc.

What revs did you drop the clutch at? because when I was racing I would drop the clutch at 4-5,000RPM.

oh not a great deal. maybe because the brakes were jammed it put too much load on the gears? i dont know. I didnt think i gave it that much, but who knows. After being parked up, and being nanad for the last 20 odd years had something to do with it? haha

Hillman kid

avenger27
