Here's a couple of simple air cleaner mods to improve breathing on Mk1 Avengers:

1/
Drill out the hole in the air cleaner neck and screw an air line brass fitting (from Mitre10 or other hardware store)
Then remove the old hose from the breather to the air cleaner body and replace it with a length of heater hose from the flame trap to the brass fitting, held on with a hose clip. This mod stops the air cleaner getting choked with oily fumes coming through the breather, with any oil that does come through, dripping harmlessly into the air cleaner neck.

2/
Remove the old steel intake neck and fit 2 x 50mm PVC elbows (from a plumbing store) glued together as shown in the photo.
A small hole is drilled in the side to locate the new neck on the air filter, along with a couple of hacksaw cuts and a hose clamp.
This mod opens up the air cleaner neck and positions the intake away from the radiator, so lots of cold air can enter the air cleaner.

PS. Fitting a 10" electric radiator fan is also a good mod to reduce engine noise and increase power.

or vent into a catch can altogether

until emission-tests come into play its not necessary (or at least wasnt when I was getting WOF's over 10 years ago with it dripping onto the chassis rail haha)

so what have you done with your heater then? notice lack of water pipes for heater rad.

Yes, has a heater bypass hose installed. Like that when I bought the car, so I guess the heater was leaking. Changing the heater core is just about the worst job to do on an Avenger, so I'm not worried about it. Also the heater fan doesn't go (they usually seize) so I've used the fan switch to control the radiator fan instead. It just earths the relay, so only needed to thread a small black wire through the firewall following the choke cable, then branching off to the fan switch by the ashtray, making the install quite neat. It was running a little hot, changing the 7lb radiator cap for a 10lb fixed that. Only need to use the fan on hot days during extended periods of stop/start traffic.

They are a Chrysler part, have seen them on eBay....lol
I just made one from a molded heater hose when my son's Avenger's heater started leaking.
My Alpine also had a leaking heater and I notice a previous owner just disconnected the heater hoses at the firewall and joined them together using a piece of pipe...now that's what I call a BYPASS HOSE...haha
