Hi there,
I need the round side mirror and a L steering rack end to pass my warrant.
Any leads?
Cheers!

Send Avengerparts (A.K.A Graeme) a PM or email him on g.j.ekins@slingshot.co.nz about the rack ends. He sells them new, just brought a couple of pairs off him a few weeks ago for my Avengers.

The mirror is a bit harder to find but you don't need a side mirror for a WOF in a car as old as yours.

Have a look at this website https://www.nzta.govt.nz/safety/vehicle-safety/vehicle-equipment/vehicle-windows-wipers-and-mirrors/

Scroll down to the section about mirrors and it has a table saying "How many mirrors do I need?"

And there is a column that says "Vehicle manufactured before 1/1/2000" and it says "one right-hand outside or one interior mirror"

So as your car is a 1979 car it only needs 1 mirror. If your internal mirror is working then you don't need the side mirror, you only need a side mirror for cars after 2000. Print that out and take it to your WOF guy.

Thanks guys!
Ill check out all the links today and give Graeme an email... My side mirror is original and fixed but the mirror is frosted over and doesn't stay in place.... so i might just chat with the local glass guy and get him to cut me something to size. And your right I want it for purely for the handiness of a side mirror!
Appreciate the help.
Im new to the 'avenger' clan, its my first classic car so was really glad to find this forum.

Yeah. I know how handy a side mirror is, even though they are tiny on old cars. I recently got the side mirror on my 75 Avenger going after owning the car for about 8 years. It was glued in place because the internal mechanism had broken, I got a 2nd hand mirror so I could replace the mechanism but it is so small that it is practically useless.

Owning a classic car is really fun, you will be getting cheap rego in 2 months time!! Your yearly rego fees will drop to about $60 a year once the car turns 40 years only, which for you will be 1/1/2019. They don't apply the new rate if you buy the rego before then. So if you brought a year rego now then they would charge you the full price. So you would be better off getting a 3 month rego at full price, then buy a years cheap rego in February. There are also a few other changes to the rego that happens then, like you don't need to back date the rego if you leave it expired for a while, and the time that you can leave it unregistered before it gets deregistered changes from 1 year to 2 years.

There is also a lot of rules that don't apply to old cars. Like rear seatbelts. Anything before 1978 doesn't need them, so my 72 Charger and 75 Avenger doesn't have rear belts (It is still legal for someone to sit in the back with no belt) but my 1980 Avenger wagon does need rear belts. There are other things like you can remove the windscreen washer on a pre-91 car, none of my classics have working washers so I just remove them and use a bottle of water if I need to wash my windows. Other things are like we don't need side mirrors, or ABS, or reverse lights, or high stop lights. So if you ever get failed on anything for a WOF, just check the rules to see if there is a exception for older cars, because they can get away with a lot of stuff that a modern car needs to have working.
