It fixed itself?!?

Half way through last year, the gearbox started popping out of 2nd gear on deceleration. Did it so little to start off with, then got progressively worse until it always did it. You'd have to be really quick with your shifts otherwise you'd embarrass yourself with loud grinding noises. I starting just shifting 1-3 and skipping 2nd gear until I could fix it. I was leaning to the issue being a bad synchro due to the progressive worsening of it.

As a uni student, the car was at home in Hawke's Bay while I was in Wellington, so it wasn't high on my priority list. Back home over summer now, getting the Avenger tip top for Leadfoot, started off with a 2 inch custom exhaust, and just a few weeks after install, 2nd gear acts normal and doesn't pop out now?!

This stumps me, because it means it isn't the synchro obviously. I can only think that it had something to do with the shift linkages, and the new exhaust vibrations vibrated things back into place? Something like that anyway.

I'll give it a transmission oil change soon and probably add some of that synchro additive stuff for extra goodness.

drive it for a bit & get it warm etc? like a proper work out or yea hopefully just fluids? not exactly a common thing (I think) to loose second is it? Been ages since I drove a manual tbh & the box i nthe race car is from my original car (1300 I bought in 1997 etc) and its had heaps of abuse

It hath indeed been fixed. Acts completely normal now when both cold and hot. There's no issue now so there was never a problem in the first place  ;)
