Ebay sometimes gets you old brochures for nothing so here we go.
Starting from the earliest, the launch brochure pictured in Malta I've posted in Avengers for sale around the world.
Feb'72. Start the good life today with the Avenger. 4 door GT's are still available and the engines have plastic fanblades. The wagons are not yet launched.
At this point the Avenger had proven to be a hit with customers and BL are about to inflict the Marina on an unsuspecting public so I guess its heavy on the propaganda!
The wheel rings on the GL look like they are inside out!
At the end of this I've posted a few pics from a Chrysler'76 brochure.

Now for August 1975. Inflation and strikes were rampant and the IMF was knocking on the UK's door. The old trading empire has collapsed and the British car industry was committing suicide.
Basically every new car was government subsidised. Chrysler was threatening to exit the UK and withdraw to France, only a big whack of taxpayers money kept the factories going.
1976 was the end of Humber and Sunbeam with Hillman going the same a year later as Hunter production went to Ireland as the Sceptre fronted Chrysler Hunter with the electronic ignition.
FWD trans engine cars were indeed the future but not this one, VW had nothing to worry about.
The woman in the passenger seat does not look happy!

Ahh the Imp. On paper a better can than the Mini. Maybe if they fitted a second thermostat to the rear (well front) of the block or something to stop the heat flashing this wee 50mpg turbine could have been a world beater.

That's more realistic, a Hunter in a field. They could tow and unlike the Cortina they could tow way over a sensible load without bending the crumple zones as a farmer around here discovered! He went back to a Hunter!

Next is The generous Hillman Avengers. Its April 1973 and the 2-door is launched. Wagons were shown on a different brochure. The basic Avenger is shown, no grille badge, passenger sun visor or cabin lamp!
With this brochure came a price list.

Now its October 1973 and so we have the upgraded engines, twin downpipes, round grille badges and about the time the price of oil was rocketing. Pity the Plymouth Cricket wasn't launched at this time.
2 door and estate models are included in this brochure. Automatics are now 4 speed.

The following load of badly taken pictures is from brochures I have for the MK1 Avenger. As you will likely see this message first I'll post these two pictures, I think you will agree with the sentiment.

From AutoCar May 1973. They liked the 2-door 1500 and I see they are comparing to 1300cc cars rather than 1600cc. The emissions designed engines I suppose.
A cousin of mine had a 2-door just like this one for 3-4 years, a DL with the square seat pattern.

In the S5 handbook there is this page. Looks like if you ordered a 2-door with opening rear quarter windows you got the 'No draught front window ventilator' I guess because of the wide front door window on the 2-door rear passingers were getting their head blown off. So they fitted opening front quarter vents.
So the 2 door S5 on (not mentioned in the S4 book) could have opening front quarter vents.

Money is still the Roman ?sd, Livers Solus Denarium base 12 then base 20 system. 2/6 2s6d (12.5p) and this along with other imperial measurements like Inches or Miles is not 'British' its Roman via the Normans. Cesars armies marched on the left.
If you were buying something posh, like a 3 piece suit the Tailor would quote you in Gunieas, 21s (?1.05)

Autocar July 1976.
The Hillman Avenger 1600 Super. This is a GL (badged as a Super) with the round headlights and the cloth panel seats. From April '76 for the last six or so months of MK1 production the GL is sold as the Super at the Super level price. DL is still a DL so its really the Super that has gone.
I read somewhere that all of Series 6 (sept '75 on) production would have had the round headlight at Super level but strikes were messing everything up.
The 'AUTO 76 R' referring to the new R reg' coming up as the year suffix letter changed August 1st every year. Here we didn't have this system so there was not the same registration change rush in sales.

So was the end of the MK1 Avenger.
In the same magazine they tested an Allegro 1100. Even though they had tried to be as polite as they could...
So BL gave up on the square steering wheel, they say something about the pedals having been improved but they are still offset!

The All-aggro was designed to take the very tall BL E-series (Maxi) engine so the bay on most of them was as open as this. They were bad enough in the wind without also the engine compartment turning into some sort of airlift!

Finally on the back page, 'Goodyear The Choice of Champions.' Ford as ever were on the button. I Bet they bent over backwards to get the Escort in the picture. Hmmm a bit low on the rear there, something to do with the leaf spring that in the next frame would have shown the Escort catapult off the other direction?
Chrysler you clowns! If they put an Avenger 2-door in that pic!

sweet sweet scans/images!
cheers :P
Man they had some choice interior colours like the purple on the gls!
Oh plum purple is not so bad on old cars, the worst colours when the paintwork gets shabby is gold or bronzes but an expensive respray will always be needed eventually. I grew up in a house with a 1970's sitting room. Brown, brown brown!
Ha ,true any color as long as it was brown!
Not brown, this GT some sort of green, but the nearest shade of green to brown!

haha. I love the shot of the Regal watching cricket. It looks menacing for some reason, like it is just waiting for a chance to run all the players over.
Photographed in Windsor no less, a bit of a twee location for a muscle or pony car. I guess thats yourself that has the bid? Hope you get it.
I think the big Chryslers photographed outside a nightclub would have been a better idea. They were a cool range of cars but they tried to sell them to people whose last car was a big Humber again Chrysler UKs marketing was way off the mark.
There must have been a series of those books, The Imps photographed in Edinburgh, because they were good on fuel and made in Scotland?
The Avengers photographed in Brighton, family day out although Brighton is 'London by the sea' the gay capital of England..arrgh.
The Hunters photographed in Newmarket, horse racing, the Hunters usually had a towbar fitted for various agricultural reasons, there were loads of Hunters on the roads in Ireland, esp. ouside the cattle mart.
The Humber Sceptre photographed in York, posh old money sorta place.
The C180 photographed in Bath, a weekend retreat for those of the new money class.
Got given this by James aka Borgwieser (From OS/Previews owner of my Red GLS) , 2 sided brochure to go with my Gay'Venger, and yes they are 'colour scans'

1970 Chrysler UK leaflet. The time when the (Hunter) Minx got replaced with the Hunter DL and the Avenger GT was launched. The Singer brand is gone as Chrysler tidy up the phone book of names inherited from Rootes.

interesting to see the avenger badge on the side like that, i nearly put some on like that as i had a few spare badges
Right enough Kiera (sorry if I've made a mess of your name) the blue GT looks like your Avenger.
I don't know if the early style wing badges were the same dimension of the rear badges and I'd guess they (the wing) badges fell off or were dinged off in a bump.
What you could do is take the small Avenger badge that was fitted to the grille, I mean the square grille badge, and put one on the wing with the 'A' about lining up with the wheel rim. If someone esp. has an early Avenger grille badge missing its pin this would be about ideal with a bit of sticky plastic for wing jewellery. I'm not going to do this on mine until it gets the last coat of paint and P2000'd.
Somewhere about here, or maybe further back
