Title: 1976 Hillman Avenger for sale
Post by: avenga on October 09, 2011, 11:32:56 AM
Hi guys.

I went to a carshow last weekend and ran in to a gentleman who has an old Avenger he is wanting to sell. He has had it since the 90's but it has been sitting in his backyard for a few years now. But now he just wants to make sure it goes to a good home instead of the scrapyard.

I went around to have a look at it. The engine runs, it is a bit rough but that is to be expected after sitting so long. The brakes are also seized. It is a 1300.

I does have pretty bad rust so it is borderline parts car/restorable.

Here is some pictures. Give me a PM if you are interested.

Yes a bit rotten, still restorable though, worth doing as the rego is on hold!!
Needs to be stored inside ASAP...a nice project for someone...

I think with a little TLC it could be saved. He doesn't want much for it so if anyone is up for a challenge.

It is mostly complete and running. Just needs body work done.

He is basically giving it away so if someone wants it as a parts car just make me an offer and I will pass it on to the seller.

I know it is pretty rough. I have wreaked probably close to a dozen in better shape than this back in my racing days, but that was back in the late 90's and early 00's when I used to buy Avengers for ~$100 and stip them. now the wreaker man wants so much for the steel you can't get them cheap.

I brought this one back in 2003 or 2004 for $36 off trade me. I was going to use it for a shell on a new race car. Sold it 2008 for something like $300-400 to a scrap yard minus all the good bits like the motor etc. pretty much just the body

This one I brought for $125 because I wanted the diff for my race car. I think the race motor I have in my '80 was the motor from this one also.

my first 4 cars cost me a grand total of $680 and they were all put to use as daily drivers in various levels of legality... ;)

My '80 race car was my first car and I brought it for $600. It was pretty mint and I was stoked with it. I was in my teens at the time. Now that I am in my early 30's I have fond memories of all the cheap rubbish cars I brought in my youth.

those really were the days when all your mates would jump in some old crappy junker and hoon around. I my 2nd car, an '84 Ford Laser for free because the guy couldn't be bothered fixing it. I brought a new battery then went to pick-a-part and brought a bonnet off a Mazda Familia and seatbeats and doors off a Mazda 323 (I wanted the retractable rear belts that came it the 323). Cost me under $100 to get it going and road legalish. By the end it's piston rings were so bad and it blew so much smoke that I had to by 4 litres of oil every 2nd time I filled up. Shell used to have like 4L of oil for $20 so I would put in 2L of oil every time I would fill the tank :)

It finally failed it's wof because of rust in the A pillar. Had a 91 Bluebird with pretty much no bottom of the boot left :) Loved my 87 VL wagon. ahh so many cars, so many memories. I could go on all night but I won't bore you all.
