Are they the bulletish shaped ones? (like on the car in the header)

The other type are the same as on the Valiants so will easily be found at a chrysler specialist.

Most Valiants never had a left mirror. The later Avengers do use the same mirror as the type on my Charger but almost every. I just had a look at some of the group shots from our last big valiant meet and out of the 14 Valiant Chargers in one shot only 2 of them had left mirrors. Same goes for most other valiants, we had around 150 valiant at our last big meet and looking at the photos I would guess around 10 had left mirrors.

Looking at the your picture you sent me the right mirror isn't a valiant style one anyway. yours in a chrome rectangle mirror.

Also most Avengers, or at least all the ones I have owned and seen didn't have a left mirror. At our last Avenger meet none of the 5 Avengers there had left hand mirrors.

Does it have holes for a mirror? if not then it would have never had one.

Really? I'm sure I've had tons of cars with two mirrors (or that used to have two mirrors)- it pisses me off because I'ld rather have none, but you can't remove them without leaving an ugly mark.

Cheers for that Richard, oh i see, true, true.

yeah its basically a chrome rectangular shaped mirror, na im sure not many Avengers had them at all.
No, there are no pre-drilled holes for the left side door.

My mates 76 Avenger auto has a left and right wing mirror both pre-drilled holes, as it came out of the factory [ im guessing? ], both  his are chrome but in the older shape Avenger model wing mirrors, basically like on your Avenger??, Had never seen it before myself either.

Groovy as, It was just my mum wanting me to put one on the left side just for better visability of the roads really.

Is it possible to get a left hand wing mirror of that sort, or close to it??

Cheers Mikey.

I was the same, I learnt to drive in my '80 Avenger and my mum hassled me in to putting a left hand mirror on mine. I just used some chrome ones from Repco. I replaced both sides so they were to same.

I never really liked them and removed both side mirrors later in it's racing career, it was a hillclimb car so it didn't realy need mirrors.

Now days I wouldn't put a left mirror on just because I like the look of only 1 side mirror on 70's cars like my Avenger and Charger. just becareful of marking your car if you do decide to put new mirrors on. Yours is a pretty rare Van so you don't want to leave marks etc on it.

@Blekkja. Yeah left mirrors are pretty uncommon, look in your own members gallery thread, most have no left mirror. I went through and had a look at all the other Avengers in our members gallery and all of them only had 1 mirror except 2 Avengers and I don't think they are factory mirrors.

The 73 def did: I've been staring at the ugly mark where it used to be on my desktop for the last week. I'm sure there was more... could just be imagining things though.

Edit: looks like you are right, just 2/8.

I have seen a few with stock left mirrors. I don't know if it was optional back in the day and not many people spent the extra coin buying or what.

I know with the Valiants it was an optional extra (Y49 "Left Hand Rear View Mirror") and pretty much nobody spent the extra to equip the mirror.

I'm sure my Ranger had 2 as well! That puts my percentage up to 33%.

A Ranger would be more likely to have 2 mirrors. You couldn't get optional extras on NZ built Valiants so you Ranger was probably an Aussie one that someone spec'd up a little bit. Todd Motor also imported fully built up Valiants from Aussie which often were spec'd differently.

Todd as with the Avengers did a really limited selection of Valiants, like NZ Chargers only came in one model, the Charger 770. My Charger is an NZ Charger so it is a 770 (the luxury model like the GLS) also not only were you limited to the Charger 770 they only came in one engine/drivetrain configuration, 265 Hemi with an auto and LSD.

Yo Mikey,

I learnt to drive in my '80 Avenger same as Richard, the visibility with that other mirror would be pretty limited I imagine,
not worth enough to scratch up your Rare VAN!!!!

1 Mirror works just fine :P

That is true. Old school mirrors are pretty tiny and pointless.

I think it is actually better to learn on a car without side mirrors because it forces you to turn your head and look, which is what you should be doing when you are driving. In modern cars people rely on mirrors way too much and they never look behind them to check their blind spot and this is how accidents happen.

So you should just rock out with one mirror and get in the habbit of looking around you and being aware of other cars rather than just a quick glance in the mirrors.

definately Richard!
Also learning with a non power steering car, in my opinion makes you a better driver in the long run as you've actually got to try to drive,
Aswell as being alot more fun than the power steering models :P

Yeah I was just talking to a friend about this the other day. Learner drivers are so spoilt with all these driving aides like traction control, ABS, Power steering and automatic gearboxes.

I know a few younger people who can't even drive a stick shift.

My problem with this is if you learn to drive in "Mum & Dads" flash new car and get used to all the driver aides then they go buy their first real car then spin out because they have been relying on traction control etc.

I think it stops new drivers from learning to basics of car control so they think they are better drivers than they are because traction control saves their arse on every corner. I for one am glad I know how to control a car in a skid rather than relying on a computer to do it for me.

With new cars there will alway be that one time in the wet when traction control fails you and that is when basic car control is needed and that is what I fear is missing from modern cars.

Plus it is so much more fun on an old RWD non-power steer car.

I learnt to drive in an '84 "Widetrack" Bluebird. First of the FWDs, unfortunately, but it was a horrible car. Done 500k+ kms, and had a latter model engine. Unfortunately the later models had hydrolic clutches so the clutch cable was just dodgily welded onto hydrolic system... it was a dog. Horrible car to drive. No power steering, heavy as anything. (I got into heaps of trouble with the old's EA because although it was bigger it had power - and that just felt wrong.) Oh that and a dodgy 1100 Leyland Clubman.  I almost yanked out the gearstick from the socket in my driving instructor's Astra though...

Its given me a good start, alright. I can manage to drive almost anything now!

yo tay,

Sick bro Sick!! hahahahaa yeah true that man, Hard!

Hahahah No doubt ae, So true! hahaa
I think it helps you to always look over your shoulder when changing lanes ae, It teaches you how to properly drive, and read the road correctly!! Instead of looking in a pesky little mirror that doesnt do much. hahaha

Cheah, Mikey.
