The Hillman & Chrysler Avenger Forum

Hi guys. With the recent influx of new members I think we really need to step up plans for our first big Avenger meet.

We are looking to do it in January 2012 to mark the 1 year anniversary of the forum.

I was thinking of doing it somewhere in the central North Island so Auckland and Wellington members don't have to drive that far (easily a days driving) but if we get an overwhelming amount of interest from South Island people then Wellington might be the go.

Please take the time to vote on which city you would prefer or if you have another suggestion for a location then please post it here.

Somewhere that will involve a real nice drive to get to: Napier/Hastings is cool because apparently the Taihape-Napier Road is amazing.

What about New Plymouth? Or even Whangamomona (on SH43 between Stratford and Taumarunui) for that matter.

We had an Avenger mini meet down in Hastings/Napier earlier this year and we had an awesome cruise around the back roads. That is why I was leaning towards having it in Hastings/Napier.

i put hastings/napier but taupo would be my second vote, we have a car museum here (i think its still here), that would be pretty cool

i have been keeping an eye on the forum over the year and note that the majority of the avenger owners are north island based so it would be in your intrest to make it a north island based meet until we weed out the south island owners,in reality its going to be the later end of next year (if even that) before i am an avenger owner thats legal.
so i wont vote in an effort to make it easier for those of you with a car that need to get a venue with ease

Those without (legal) cars of their own shouldn't have a problem finding somebody to ride shotgun with, I'm sure. Or maybe special exemption could be made for other Rootes or Chrysler models?

Other than me who else has a road legal Avenger in the south island?

Scout's Avenger should still be should still be road legal, but she hasn't been on the forum for a while.

I know we have a few members members in christchurch and a few other places.

I think you are the only regular poster I know of with a road legal Avenger.

I would be keen for anywhre in Auckland, but Napier and Hastings is no worries, just would be keen to cruise down with other Avenger people from Auckland, not just by myself, hahah

Yeah, just like 79estate, I'd be keen for an Avenger meet in Auckland then go for a drive somewhere? Or if it is down South then would love to do an Auckland mini-meet and drive down together..

I'm voting Taupo just for ease of access from Auckland; however it will be in January so probably I'll have more time to go to a further destination..

I did have one, but about 16 years ago, I got it as a doner car to fix mums 78 wagon that she crashed, back then I didnt know that vans were rare, gutted that I broke it up......It was my Hillman Superminx that I gave to the museum here in Hawkes bay

My old flatmate had a Singer Gazelle Ute. Its prob still sitting in a shed needing a bit of love... would dearly love to go rescue it. I managed to get it started one and had a blat around Waharoa. Felt real tough.

small town - is essentually matamata's ghetto suburb. dairy factory closed so there is no work, and people burn down their houses rather than let the bank repo them. charming place. i'm sure i was the whitest person there.

whats stopping you from rescuing it?

me, i guess. it had some pretty angry rust and i've got better things to do. that and i haven't seen her for years so who knows what the situation is.

Yes! Avenger meet. I am pretty sure we can say that Napier/Hasting has won the poll so now we need to start thinking about dates.
